SIMATS School of Engineering Students developed Drone Agriculture

Chennai, May 2022: Artificial Intelligence is on the cusp of driving an agricultural drone revolution at SIMATS School of Engineering (SSE), and helping confront the challenge in a sustainable way. Calling the initiative of our visionary Dr. N.M. Veeraiyan, the respected Founder and Chancellor of SIMATS, the students and faculties of SIMATS School of Engineering (SSE) have stepped towards reaching the vision of innovation and technology in agriculture. As a first of its kind practice, Agricultural Drones at SSE are taking over agricultural trends with cutting-edge applications such as sustainable irrigation, supplying organic nutrients, surveying farmlands, and monitoring soil & crop health. The drones were developed by the students of SSE that were manufactured by a Kovai-based company Green Tech Aviation, an incubee of Saveetha Transdisciplinary Entrepreneurship Promotion and Upliftment Park (STEP-UP) a startup support center at SIMATS.

The Agricultural Drones developed by the students typically operates using Internet-based smart technologies on both battery and fuel (Hybrid), which can undertake precise farm operations and costs between ₹5-10 lakh each. Faculties say, although the costs involved are still high, drones could prove transformative changes in making farming efficient which was very much evident during the operations.Mr. Pravin Rajasekhar, CEO of Green Tech Aviation said, “Drones delivers agricultural intelligence for students, agronomists and other green activists in Efficient Irrigation and Crop Management, Water Resource Analysis, Contour Management, and other agricultural practices which are challenging aspects of agricultural engineering.”The students and faculties of SIMATS School of Engineering (SSE)are privileged in being exposed to such modern breakthroughs that enhance and enlighten their career.
